HKN Organization
Eta Kappa Nu is a nonprofit, public-service organization consisting of about 200 university chapters, 200,000 members, a variety of committees, many active member volunteers, and thousands of student members.

The overall governance of HKN is the responsibility of the Board of Governors, a volunteer organization of HKN members that have prominent positions in academia and industry. The Board consists of a president, vice president, past president, secretary, and treasurer, each of whom serves a one-year term. Six directors, four representing each of HKN's geographic regions and two at-large, serve three-year terms.

The HKN Headquarters is managed by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), a nonprofit educational organization that serves industry and academia. IEC's Executive Vice President, Roger Plummer, also serves as the Executive Director of HKN. The Executive Director is the chief operating executive of HKN and is supported by IEC staff members who perform the myriad of functions necessary to the success of HKN.

HKN has approximately 200 chartered chapters. Each chapter is student-led and capably guided by a faculty advisor. Students having achieved the required academic standing and also having significant leadership and exceptional character qualities are invited to become HKN members. Typically, chapters consist of junior and senior students majoring in electrical and computer engineering.

New chapters are established upon petition request from the institution, which must have an ABET accreditation for their Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering curricula. The chapters are supported by the headquarters and the Board of Governors' regional directors.

The HKN college chapters perform a variety of service functions. Often, they help their department, college, or community. A list of typical chapter activities can be found under the Chapter Info tab.

HKN has about 12 standing committees consisting of dedicated volunteers. The chair of each committee is appointed by the president of the Board of Governors. Committee members are normally members of HKN with a particular interest or talent related to the committee's purpose. HKN encourages members to become involved by volunteering to join an HKN committee. To become involved, simply send an e-mail to HKN's Executive Director, Roger Plummer.
