The Outstanding Chapter Award committee is proud to announce that a record-breaking twenty chapters have been named Outstanding Chapters for the 2006-07 academic year. The winners represent a variety of sizes and geographic locations. Many are past winners, but for a few this is the first OCA plaque they will hang on their walls.

These chapters embody the leadership skills, service commitments, and academic abilities that make HKN the most prestigious electrical and computer honor society. Although not every chapter inducts large numbers of new members each year, those they do choose to nominate dedicate enormous amounts of hours to the organization, to the department, and to the community through a variety of projects.

Many chapters host tutoring sessions, mentor underclassmen, or run ECE laboratories. They conduct department tours and recruit new students to ECE and to HKN. Some have planned career fairs for their departments and many have planned lecture series. Some chapters run snack stands or student lounges within their departments, allowing their peers a chance to relax between classes or catch up on homework.

In the community, they can be seen fundraising for the Relay for Life or the needy in their area. They work with underprivileged children and build robots with local scout troops.

Winning chapters are chosen based on a formula of person-hours among other criterion. This allows large and small chapters to have an equal opportunity to win. The Annual Chapter Report, required for each chapter after each academic year, is used as the nomination form.

Plaques will be presented to the department heads of the winning universities at the annual meeting of ECEDHA, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association, in San Diego, CA March 17, 1008.
