Priyanth Chandrasekar, 2007 Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineering Student award winner, defines what it means to be an Eta Kappa Nu member through his outstanding service to the department, university, and community as well as his high academic standards.
Priyanth graduated from the University of Maine in 2006 with a double major in economics and electrical engineering. While at the University of Maine, he received several scholarships, participated in a wide variety of organizations, and accepted numerous awards and acknowledgements for his achievements.
As an officer in campus organizations such as Eta Kappa Nu, IEEE, Golden Key Honor Society, and as a member of Tau Beta Pi, Senior Skulls (recognizing the top 1% of the university) and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Priyanth proved his academic abilities. For fun he played cricket with the UMaine Cricket Club and participated in the International Students Association as well as in the Black Bear Men's Chorus and UMaine Pep Band.
Priyanth's peers recognized his talents by awarding him Resident Advisor of the Year, President of the UMaine Student Government, Student Leader of the Year, and Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior.
Despite all of these commitments, Priyanth maintained a high grade point average and volunteered his time at the Crossroad Ministries and Manna Soup Kitchen. He was also chief organizer of successful campus-wide events such Metal Chef 2006, Rangoli 2005, International Dance Festival 2005 and 2006, and Culturefest 2004 and 2005.
Currently Priyanth is studying at the University of Cambridge in England. Eta Kappa Nu is proud to recognize Priyanth's outstanding accomplishments and name him the 2007 Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer. Priyanth will accept his award at the 2008 Annual Meeting of ECEDHA, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association in San Diego, California.
